- Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine (Hematology-Oncology), Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Joshua Brandstadter is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and Director of Clinical Research for the Center for Cytokine Storm Treatment and Laboratory (CSTL). He earned his MD and PhD at Duke University, an MSc at the University of Oxford, and completed internal medicine residency and hematology-oncology fellowship training at Penn.
The Brandstadter laboratory studies the biology of lymph node stromal cells and the cellular ecosystems that shape germinal center responses and B cell–driven inflammation. His work has advanced understanding of stromal contributions to Castleman disease and related lymphoproliferative and cytokine storm syndromes, with growing translational focus on biomarker discovery and therapeutic stratification.
Through his CSTL clinical research leadership, Dr. Brandstadter helps coordinate Penn’s investigator-initiated trials in Castleman disease and cytokine storm syndromes, partnering with the Penn Colton Center for Autoimmunity, the Institute for Immunology and Immune Health, and patient advocacy organizations to advance therapeutic options for these rare and severe diseases.
