Dr. Jian Xu is a Research Scientist in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and a member of the Colton Center for Autoimmunity. She received her BSc and PhD in Molecular Biology from Fudan University in Shanghai, China.

Dr. Xu’s research focuses on translational work examining the role of STriatal Enriched Protein tyrosine Phosphatase (STEP) in neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia. STEP is a brain-specific phosphatase that modulates synaptic plasticity and has been implicated in cognitive and behavioral deficits across a range of neuropsychiatric conditions. Her work has contributed to understanding how STEP regulates key signaling pathways and has helped elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying antipsychotic medications.
