Dr. Yaakov Naparstek is a Professor of Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Scientific Director of the Meuhedet Research Institute, with board certification in Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Clinical Immunology and Allergy. He is a graduate of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem and has held research fellowships and visiting professorships at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Tufts University, the National Institutes of Health, and Stanford University.
Dr. Naparstek served as Chairman of Medicine at Hadassah University Hospital, Director of the Hadassah Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology Center, and Deputy Director of Hadassah for Research and Academic Affairs. He holds the Leifferman Chair in Rheumatology. He is the founder and former head of the Israeli SLE Registry, former Chairman of the Boards of the Israeli T-Cell Vaccination Center, and currently heads the Israeli Cell Therapy and Gene Therapy Committees.
His research focuses on autoimmunity, SLE, autoimmune arthritis, and type 1 diabetes, with a particular emphasis on identifying target antigens in these diseases and developing antigen-specific therapeutic modalities and novel drug delivery systems.
