Clinical Microbiology and Immunology
Dr. Ariel Munitz is a Full Professor in the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Tel Aviv University, and Director of the Ella Kodesz Institute of Host Defense against Infectious Diseases. He earned his BSc in Medical Sciences, MSc, and PhD in Pharmacology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Faculty of Medicine, and completed postdoctoral training in Allergy and Immunology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio, where he also held an adjunct faculty position.
Dr. Munitz’s research focuses on Type 2 immunity in health and disease — immune responses that occur in allergic diseases and helminth parasite infections, but that also play emerging roles in metabolism, tissue regeneration, and cancer. His laboratory aims to define the roles of type 2 immune cells, particularly eosinophils, in chronic inflammation and the tumor microenvironment, and to translate these findings into novel immunotherapies. His work has been published in leading journals including Nature Immunology, and he has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications with more than 6,400 citations.
